RE: Who is leaving out this weekend & where are you going

We made reservations a while back at Terrace Pines in Center Ossipee NH. Well we have sold our Motorhome (didn't think that would happen so fast), but they have small cabin rentals and that is where we are going. I just hope I can remember all the little things that are usually in the camper and you don't even think about.

RE: Generator problem

The ground can be the connection of the genset to the frame of the RV. Then the ground wire for the starter is just connected to the genset. A redundant ground might help. That's just another ground you can put from the genset to the frame of the RV. Check the ground wire from your chassis Battery, as it may be the problem. If you Rv frame is rusted the ground can't get through. That may require a ground wire going from genset to a spot that is not rusted. Follow the positive wire from battery to genset starter it might be loose as sometimes they use more than one wire and connect them, and that connection gets loose.
Thanks for the tips, how heavy a wire should I use?

Generator problem

I have been having trouble lately getting my generator to start. When hitting the start button (either inside, or on the gen. itself) it will just click, or weakly turn over. First I thought it was the battery, so I got a new one yesterday. I put it in and noticed similar problems, but I am able to get it to start. It just doesn't crank like it should. If I start the Motorhome and then hit the start button, it seems to get more power to the generator, but still not cranking the way it should. I took a ride to a nearby RV repair place to ask for advice. His suggestion was to check the ground and see if it needed to be cleaned up. Well I took the book out to see where the ground was (if you haven't figured out by now, I am not the best DIY person). Anyway there is no ground wire connected to the nut showed in the manual. My question is, how heavy a wire will I need for a ground wire? Since it is starting, I am sure there is a ground somewhere, but maybe not grounded well enough. Any other suggestions are welcome. To me it seems like maybe a starter problem. What do you think? Oh yeah, this is an Onan Emerald 4k.
Thanks

RE: Safety of my Family

to NHclassC:
I actually live on the Connecticut border, but the mountain lion crossed the road in front of me in Mass. I stopped the car and watched him for five minutes, no camera, though. I was at a farmer's house in CT about a week later, and he said he knew all about it, that he's seen TWO of them out in his fields.
The black bear comes through here about every three weeks.
We have way too many coyotes here...
Very cool, I would love to see one (from a distance)

RE: Safety of my Family

I've shot three bears, they don't go easy. I have a 400 pound bear who visits my neighborhood all the time, not concerned. (Also TWO mountain lions!) I've tracked wounded bears in the dark with a .45, now that's scary!
Pepper spray for bears is a better idea. Carry it on your belt, always ready to draw and be used. And you can use it on other threats.
(Here in Taxachusetts, you need a permit (costs $100!!!) to carry pepper spray.)
I assume you know all the adages about food in bear country.
Mountain Lions in Massachusetts? I thought they had been long gone.

RE: Best route to Cape Cod

Other people call rotaries: "Traffic Circles" you are to yiield coming into one, but half the people here don't believe in that!
That's right, the person with the oldest heaviest car (Chrysler Imperial) has the right of way :B

RE: Portland ME to Cape Cod MA

Sorry, I didn't mean to send your topic off track, but I just wanted you to be aware before going through Boston. Just a note about Rt. 128. Down around Norwood and Canton Rt. 128 South becomes Rt. 93 north for a short distance, until you hook up with Rt. 3 South. I have always found that very confusing.

RE: Portland ME to Cape Cod MA

If towing with Propane, you are not allowed through Boston (I-93) you will have to go around via 95 south which is also known as rt-128.
Jim
I don't think this is true. As best as I can determine the restriction is a commercial vehicle restriction.....I have towed through those tunnels for years.
Rte 128 will add about 30 miles to your trip....
Please look under the Mass. link Rules of the road

RE: tow vehicle?

If you go to Motorhome Magazine and look at the right side of the page, there is a dinghy guide section that lists vehicles that can be towed 4down. That is a very good place to get info.

RE: Gas milages

I have a 1997 31ft with a 460 in it. I just took a 300 mile trip two weeks ago and drove VERY conservative (58mph-63mph). I checked the milage and came up with 8.3mpg. Seems the V10's do a bit better.
